Tampa General Expands Medical District Campus with $22 Million Property Acquisition

Tampa General Hospital (TGH) continues to grow its presence within the Tampa Medical and Research District with a new $22 million real estate acquisition on Davis Islands.

According to Hillsborough County property records, the academic health system purchased a 48,000-square-foot building located at 17 Davis Blvd., adjacent to its main campus.

The property houses a newly built TGH Endocrinology Clinic as well as University of South Florida (USF) Health offices. A TGH spokesperson confirmed the acquisition to the Tampa Bay Business Journal, noting that the expansion reinforces the health system’s ongoing commitment to advancing specialized care and academic collaboration.

“It is designated as hospital-based clinic space, which allows us to expand access to specialized services that address rare and complex care needs—a hallmark of TGH and USF’s shared mission to serve our community,” said Adam Smith, Executive Vice President and Chief Ambulatory Care Officer at Tampa General Hospital.

USF Health will continue to lease the portion of the property it currently occupies, ensuring continuity of services and academic integration.

Smith added, “This acquisition supports our strategy to prioritize acute care within the hospital, hospital-based clinics on campus, and access to essential administrative space.”

The purchase is part of TGH’s broader investment strategy within the Tampa Medical and Research District—a collaborative hub that includes the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine in Water Street Tampa and TGH’s Kennedy Boulevard campus.

Last week, TGH also announced plans to develop a new medical campus in Ybor City, signaling continued expansion and investment in the region’s healthcare infrastructure.
