June 4, 2025Pasco County Finalizes Plans for $54 Million Road Widening
Pasco County is moving forward with the final design phase of a $54 million road widening initiative aimed at improving traffic flow and accommodating regional growth.
The long-anticipated project, which has experienced several revisions to its scope, will expand DeCubellis Road from Little Road to Town Center Road, and Starkey Boulevard from DeCubellis Road south for approximately one mile. These improvements are part of a broader effort to enhance infrastructure in one of the county’s fastest-growing areas.
The roadway will be widened from two lanes to four, with a divided median added for safety and efficiency. Key intersections—DeCubellis Road at Starkey Boulevard and at Tanglewood Drive—will be upgraded. The project also includes the addition of a multi-use trail featuring dedicated bike lanes to support alternative transportation and recreational use.
As Pasco County continues to experience rapid residential development, particularly along vital east-west connectors, this project is designed to alleviate traffic congestion and improve overall roadway capacity.
On June 3, the Pasco County Board of Commissioners approved a professional services agreement with Ayres Associates Inc. not to exceed $2.71 million. This follows a previous contract awarded to Ayres in April 2022 for $1.82 million covering phases two and three of the DeCubellis Road Widening and Intersection Improvements Project.
Subsequent amendments included an additional $28,000 in October 2022 for survey services and approximately $153,822 in July 2022 for project management, design, and safety enhancements. Further revisions were prompted by public input received in March 2024; however, the original agreement had since expired. The latest commission vote authorizes the timely completion of the revised scope of work.
The $2.71 million allocation is being funded through a combination of the county’s mobility and transportation budget sources.
Construction is projected to begin in spring 2028, with completion anticipated by spring 2030.
