Skanska Delivers 400-Unit Marina Club Apartments on Former Skyway Marina Mall Site

A national construction firm has delivered a new 400-unit mixed-use community in St. Petersburg, transforming the former Skyway Marina Mall site into a modern residential destination.

Skanska has completed the Marina Club Apartments, a waterfront mixed-use development overlooking Boca Ciega Bay in St. Pete’s Skyway Marina district. The project utilized prefabricated building methods to accelerate construction and bring units to market more efficiently.

“As a builder active in St. Petersburg for decades, Skanska has played a key role in supporting the city’s rapid population growth by delivering essential infrastructure and community assets,” said Tracy Hunt, Skanska Florida executive vice president and general manager. “With more people moving to St. Petersburg, the need for high-quality multifamily developments has never been greater. By leveraging precast methods, we’re able to deliver projects like the Marina Club Apartments in a faster, more efficient, and resilient manner.”

Skanska was named general contractor for the $111 million development in 2022. The project replaces the long-standing Skyway Marina Mall, which operated from the late 1970s until its closure in early 2022. Developer Allied Group Holdings acquired the property that same year.

Located at 4341 34th St. S, the Marina Club Apartments were designed by Architectonics Studio and feature studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom units ranging from 500 to 1,200 square feet. Amenities include a sky lounge with bay views, a pool deck with grilling stations, a fitness center and yoga room, clubhouse, co-working spaces, bocce ball court, dog park, and a 290,000-square-foot parking garage for residents and visitors. Ground-floor retail space is planned for restaurants, shops, and other businesses.

Skanska’s regional portfolio also includes the St. Petersburg Municipal Pier, Coachman Park in downtown Clearwater, and the University of South Florida Health Morsani College of Medicine and Heart Institute at Water Street Tampa.
